Aer Lingus rejects second hostile bid from Ryanair

Aer Lingus on Monday night rejected a second hostile bid in two years from Ryanair, its much bigger Irish rival.

The Irish government, which holds a 25 per cent stake, responded cautiously, in contrast to its immediate rejection of the first bid two years ago.

Ryanair’s opportunistic all-cash offer takes advantage of depressed airline stocks. It values Aer Lingus’ equity at €748m.
