AA Ending SAL soon?

Any questions about DFW or any of its carriers?

AA Ending SAL soon?

Postby captmidnight on Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:58 pm

I work with this lady from El Salvador and she is looking for tickets to go home. She said TACA charges $600 or so round trip. So I helped by going to AA. I forgot the date but sometime in late July or early August a connection to MIA is required to go to SAL. Is this part of AA's route cuts? If so, then TACA will be staying at DFW for a while then without competition. Can somebody confirm?

My friend purchased ticket to San Salvador outbound in August and back in May. So there, AA is not discontinuing nonstop service to SAL from DFW

I think the SAL route is very new. And I think I know what the problem is. It's not daily service. It operates Monday, Weds, Fri, Sat. So if you look for a flight on Tues, Thurs, or Sun from DFW-SAL, all you will see are MIA connections. For a nonstop, you need to choose one of the applicable days.

This is one of those things where a travel agency is actually useful. They usually aren't, but if you are looking for a flight on the intenet, and were looking for, let's say, a Tuesday, you'd think the flight no longer exists. A travel agent on a Sabre set would see the XTQS which tells them except Tuesday, Thurs, Sun.

Oh well, I digress. Have they already bought their ticket? If not, maybe they can still fly nonstop.

Only three AA route cuts have been loaded so far. None of them from DFW. I don't think many routes will be cut. They'll just be thinned a little (meaning rather than 6 daily flights to somewhere, you'll see 4 or 5). The revised schedule will be out in a week or two. Cutting an uneconomical route has a financial benefit. Cutting a marginal route doesn't have the economic benefit that trimming it does. It squeezes it for higher margins if you just trim it a little!

I believe TACA runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I heard they are adding a Saturday flight for a few weeks. That should give DFW pretty much daily service to SAL.

I noticed TACA boarding to SAL last Thursday as I was making my quick get-away for the 4th.

Looks like TACA flies every day but Weds, Fri, Sun. So the nonstop A319 DFW-SAL is Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat.
