DFW Foreign Carrier Estimated April 2017 Loads

Postby Greg on Tue May 30, 2017 9:59 am

Here are the estimated load factors for the foreign carriers at DFW for April 2017. Emirates back down to the low 60s as was Qatar, surprisingly, as they've been very solid at DFW for a long time. I understand Etihad had some seats blocked on the days of 77W operation, but I'm not sure how many seats, thus their numbers are most likely higher than what I've got estimated here. The "old guard" of British, Korean, and Lufthansa continue with another fairly good month for each.

UPDATE: I've been informed that Etihad blocked 43 seats during the five days it operated the Boeing 777-300/ER int DFW. As such, here are updated numbers for them.. the 25 flights of 77L at 239 seats each gives us 5,975 seats. Five 77W flights with 43 seats blocked brings that aircraft from 328 to 285 seats and 1,425 seats available. So we now have a total of 7,400 seats available each way. Arriving load factor is now 91.18%, departing load factor is now 82% and the overall load factor is 86.59%. Ignore the Etihad figures below.

How did we arrive at the data?
I took publicly available seat counts and other published data showing available data and came up with these estimates. I do not guarantee 100% accuracy, but I think we are fairly close to the true numbers. OAG, Various “Source” websites, airline sites etc.

Assumptions:
AeroMexico – 59 flights with 99 seats
Air Canada - 100 flights with 73 seats, 30 flights with 75 seats
Avianca - 13 flights with 96 seats, four flights with 120 seats
British Airways - 21 flights with 337 seats, nine flights with 275 seats
Emirates - 30 flights with 354 seats
Etihad - 25 flights with 239 seats, five flights with 328 seats
Interjet - 50 flights with 150 seats
Japan Airlines - 30 flights with 161 seats
Korean - 22 flights with 248 seats
Lufthansa - 30 flights with 216 seats
Qantas - 30 flights with 484 seats inbound and 355 seats outbound (lower outbound estimate for blocked seats)
Qatar - 26 flights with 358 seats, four flights with 259 seats
Volaris – 13 flights with 179 seats

Thanks as usual for posting this data Greg.

I worked with your figures and reviewed the ones reported by the Mexican Aviation Authority (DGAC) as well, thus estimating American Airlines' load factors in the Mexico City - Dallas route:

29,462 total passengers transported in 300 flights made in the DFW-MEX-DFW route, averaging 98 passengers per flight and a load factor of approximately 72.5%.

In terms of market share in the very same DFW-MEX-DFW route:

AAL..... 62.1%
AIJ..... 20.1%
SLI..... 17.7%

As for the DFW-GDL-DFW route, my estimates show a 76.9% market share for American and the 23.1% remaining for Volaris. The approximate load factors were 70.8% for the former and 70.1% for the latter.

Best regards.
