LAN Chile to DFW?

Postby 050397 on Sun Jul 31, 2011 3:15 pm

Now I know Wikipedia is NOT the best source, I couldn't help but wondering about this:

When the airline takes delivery of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner it will start flights to Washington D.C. and London-Heathrow. It is also considering to start flights to Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and Atlanta in the USA; in Europe to Barcelona, Brussels and/or Amsterdam, Rome and Zurich; in Africa and Asia to Cape Town, Johannesburg, Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

IMHO, it seems plausible using the 787. It would connect two oneworld hubs: Dallas and Santiago, however, with American on the route with a 767/777 who knows. We all know American's tendency to cannibalize. :P

Your thoughts?

Welcome to DFW Tower, 050397!

I'm sure the airport, and us spotters, would love to see LAN operating the SCL-DFW route, but who knows. For years there has been talk of AA's fellow oneworld partner Iberia taking over the DFW-Madrid route, but we've yet to see Iberia metal lined up at Terminal D.

I understand that LAN is expecting five 787s to be delivered in 2012 according to this article:
http://www.foxbusiness.com/industries/2011/05/03/chile-lan-sees-delivery-5-boeing-787-8s-2012/.

I do have to wonder though, since AA hasn't swapped operation of the DFW-MAD route with Iberia if they would switch DFW-SCL with LAN. DFW Airport does give new carriers substantial financial incentives - free landing fees for a period and such. Time will tell.

I see. At the time, however, I think Iberia has bigger fish to fry. Would there be enough room on DFW-SCL for the two carriers to coexist?

Well, American seems to think there is enough room for 10 flights a week in the Winter... starting November 17 they up matters from daily to 10x weekly.

are the 787s LAN-Chile-specific? I was hoping for LAN-Peru to start LIM-DFW.
