Qatar officially joins OneWorld. DFW Soon?

Postby ZuluLima on Tue Oct 29, 2013 1:40 pm

I put the over/under on a DFW route announcement at 1 year. Taking all bets.

They are taking new widebody deliveries (77W, 788) and were able to successfully start a route down the road at IAH after Emirates did. With little chance of AA starting a DFW-DOH route, this has to be just a matter of time. So...

Will they announce DFW soon?

Will they switch the IAH route over or supplement it EK-style?

Will they send 77L or 788? (Does 788 even have the range?)

As much as it is likely to happen I hope not. If Emirates dominates the Middle Eastern Market in Dallas we have higher chances of getting an a380 from them

There's no chance of seeing Emirates A380s here...it's a guarantee. They have 90+30 orders and they have to send them somewhere. We can (and will) have both.

Absolutely. Not sure what point you are trying to make here, but the article only seems to back up my position. Emirates (read: Middle East) loads are strong. Airport "is" A380 capable.

In either case, the issue is having Qatar service here. Who knows whether QR bringing in a 787/777 flight would preclude an EK A380? Maybe it would make more sense to go with a single A380 rather than 2x 77Ls if QR also operates the route. I would certainly never root against more airline variety for the sake of potential aircraft variety, given the high chances of that happening anyway.

More interesting issue from the article: BA looking at sending A380s to DFW. I would have guessed double daily service first, but definitely won't argue this decision with Willie Walsh! Despite our Whalejet drought here it could come to be that in, say, 2016 or so, DFW could be hosting 3 A380s daily (BA, QF, EK).
