DFW Foreign Carrier Estimated September 2018 Loads

Postby Greg on Wed Nov 07, 2018 12:41 pm

Here are the estimated load factors for the foreign carriers at DFW for September 2018. Interjet back to its usual half-empty/half-full planes (depending on your outlook)... Interesting that WOW dropped to 64% after being at 80, 91, 90 percent the prior three months. Icelandair mid 60s which is typical for them so far... wonder how things will shape out next year with Icelandair buying out WOW, certainly both carriers although operated separately won't both be at DFW? Japan Airlines at 86% after four months over 90% - they must be pleased with their return to DFW.

How did we arrive at the data?
I took publicly available seat counts and other published data showing available data and came up with these estimates. I do not guarantee 100% accuracy, but I think we are fairly close to the true numbers. OAG, Various Source websites, airline sites etc.

Assumptions:
AeroMexico - 40 flights with 99 seats, 20 flights with 96 seats
Air Canada - 173 flights with 76 seats
Avianca - 28 flights with 96 seats, one flight with 153 seats, one flight with 150 seats
British Airways – 30 flights with 337 seats
Emirates - 30 flights with 354 seats
Icelandair - 17 flights with 183 seats
Interjet - 49 flights with 150 seats
Japan Airlines - 30 flights with 195 seats
Korean - 22 flights with 277 seats
Lufthansa - 30 flights with 255 seats
Qantas – 30 flights with 484 seats inbound and 355 seats outbound (lower outbound estimate for blocked seats)
Qatar – 30 flights with 358 seats
Volaris - 13 flights with 179 seats
WOW Air - 13 flights with 345 seats

The Mexican carriers seem to be doing so-so if not worse. I would like to see what AA’s numbers are on those routes that 40, Y4 and AM fly.

Greg, thanks as usual.

panamboy70, I worked with Greg’s info and reviewed the reports by the Mexican Aviation Authority (DGAC) as well, thus estimating American Airlines' load factors in the Mexico City - Dallas route:

31,010 total passengers transported in 296 flights made in the DFW-MEX-DFW route, averaging 105 passengers per flight and a load factor of approximately 68.2%.

In terms of market share in the very same DFW-MEX-DFW route:

AAL.... 66.3%
SLI..... 17.1%
AIJ..... 16.6%

As for the DFW-GDL-DFW route, 12,883 passengers were transported during the month and my estimates show a 78.6% market share for American and the 21.4% remaining for Volaris. American’s load factor? Approximately 65.9% (84 passengers per flight).

Best regards.
