I went to Arlington Camera for the first time based on the positive comments I'd read on the Texas Photo Forum. This was about six weeks ago before we were going on our summer vacation up into northern New Mexico and I had in mind several items was looking for. I ended up only buying one of the three items I was looking for as they were kind enough to talk with me for about an hour on what I really needed and didn't need (and was most pleased that they actually told me most of what I wanted I really didn't need, thereby saving me a *lot* of money).
They were also happy to provide me some advice on some other equipment questions I had that I never found a satisfactory answer to from Professor Google. It's very refreshing to get help from knowledgeable sales staff without the high pressure sell. They were patient and even let me try out a few things on my DSLR to see what I thought. They're an ace bunch that I plan on supporting further.
It was quite a drive for me from where I was that day, but it was a drive worth it as it was time well spent. I'm planning to come back again...and again. Their prices on things aren't far off from online, and I'll gladly pay a few extra dollars to support a local independent business.

I've only been to Arlington Camera one time but I was impressed. Two other shops I can recommend are Camera Stop on Preston Rd. in Plano and Fort Worth Camera on W. 6th St. Fort Worth. They both have very helpful and knowledgeable staffs.

Made my second visit to Arlington Camera yesterday morning- had in mind two Bogen Manfrotto monopods I wanted and they let me play around with some of the offerings before I settled on one. I didn't notice this last time I was there, but they also had some used tripods and monopods on sale, too. At quite a bit lower than the list prices I've seen, too- eBay included.

Another great camera store is Competitive Camera on Irving Blvd., just behind the Wyndham Anatole Hotel on I-35, in Dallas. I've been doing business with Ramsey and his son Eugene, for years. Good people and they have quite the inventory.
